God has a sense of humor. We had another adventure of epic proportions. On the way to Atlanta, we ended up with a flat tire. In the scheme of life, a flat tire really isn't a big deal, just a minor pain. We were able to meet with friends in South Carolina in spite of the flat tire. We just met them later than expected! Sean ended up with a low grade fever and a sore throat Tuesday night, but it seems to be better today.
The appointment went well. We're special and interesting. Though I wish we were not interesting to a doctor who only sees interesting patients, if you know what I mean. ~smile~ He asked us to participate in his research study. While the appointment was only for Joseph, Sean and I also donated blood for his studies. Dr. S is part of the Foundation for Mitochondrial Medicine. It is a wonderful foundation that only supports research for finding a cure and new treatments.
Joseph had met testing and then we met with Dr. S. I think it went well. Not sure we learned anything new, but we will have to see about going to cardiology for their blood pressure issues. He doesn't think they are part of mito and feels we should be careful about assuming every symptom is part of Mito. We discussed NAA and what it means, he wants to think about it some more. He says it confirms the mito, but is not a specific finding to mito, just like all the other doctors said it was. The best news was that, because Joseph doesn't have MELAS or Leigh's disease, he doesn't have an increased risk of stroke because of the NAA finding.
We enjoyed our visit to Georgia Tech and the World of Coca-Cola. I'll try to post pictures from these two things later. We're trying to recover from the trip and get ready for a week of work ahead!
