Gingerbread House

A Simple Yeast Experiment

Pour one packet of yeast in with a small amount of soda pop. Wait 24 hours to see what happens. When the time has elapsed, take a bit and look at it under a microscope. This is yeast in a 1/2 a can of soda after sitting for 45 minutes. We used this yucky leftover soda from Halloween.......it is a nice pink color, though!

Gingerbread House Part I

We've had this special pan for years. We love it--it makes it easy to make a gingerbread house. Bake two of one side and one of the other and you've got it ready to put together.

Inspired by the Holy Grail....

Last month in art class, the boys were inspired by the Holy Grail to make these chalices. Joseph's Chalice (first 2 pictures) followed by Sean's Chalice and Joseph's snake. Matthew's bowl follows.....

Roses still blooming.....

I needed to get a breath of fresh air the other day and was surprised to see so many blooms on my roses this late in the season.

Around the World Night 2009

We've begun the journey! The boys have each picked a country for Around the World Night 2009. We've got Israel, Egypt and Canada. Our fun has started....they have already started a notebook and have been looking up information.

If you live in the Piedmont Triad and would like to participate in Around the World Night, here is more information.

This is from Lori, who coordinates Around the World Night

As of today (October 8, 2008), Countries TAKEN so far:

Greece
Turkey
Sierra Leone
Kenya
Germany
Australia
New Guinea
China
Cambodia
Spain
Belgium
India
Finland
South Africa
USA
England
Canada
Egypt
Scotland
Israel

There are so many more wonderful choices that haven't been chosen! Go on your search of the most unique, most fascinating, most historic journey to a far away land!!

I have had many new homeschool families contact me about this event. Here are some specific details... {also, in your FHE NEWSLETTER}

Here are a few of the preliminary details...

Date, Place, and Time: April 25th, 2009, Star of Bethlehem Church on
Jonestown Rd., 7-9pm

Presentations will be on a tri-fold decorated anyway you'd like.
The presentations will share a circular table with another country backed up to it. All of the table space in front of the presentation will be yours to put artifacts, small projects, reports, tasty foods to share, etc etc as you see fit. Some dress in their countries attire!!

As the evening goes on, some choose to stand at their project and answer questions; others roam and sample foods from far away places!

However you'd like, it is suppose to be a fun night to invite friends, dads, and anyone else to see what we have done. I started doing this many years ago b/c most homeschooled kids do not get to "show off" their talents as often as they should be able to!! In my humble opinion!! And, I LOVE to see the wonderful people and cultures of God's great world!!! Hope you'll mark your calendar either way; to join us in presenting your favorite country or to support those who are committed to sharing what they learn!!

If you have any further questions, I'm an email away!!!

Silver Bullet Book Theater

Coming Soon! J has been writing a spy novel....and has set his own deadline of Friday, October 10, 2008. He plans on reading it to his family Friday night.....if he "wraps it up". He came up with the name "Silver Bullet Book Theater" all on his own.
